FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich – Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills has added space and advanced medical technology while building the capacity for, and accessibility to, emergency care, trauma, surgical care and critical care.
The new hospital pavilion houses an advanced Level 2 Emergency and Trauma Center and a high-tech surgical suite. A state-of-the-art critical care unit has been integrated into the new south tower.

New critical care unit opens March 7
Treating seriously ill patients requiring constant care and close supervision, the new 20-bed intensive care unit includes large private rooms for patients. The rooms are designed to accommodate the loved ones of a patient. Glass doors allow staff to maintain constant visual surveillance, which enhances patient safety. A spacious and family-friendly waiting room as well as a private family consultation room are also part of the accommodations.
The new surgical suite opens on March 13
On the third floor, the nine operating rooms of the new surgical suite are equipped with a robotics to perform specific operations. Touch screens provide immediate access to medical records, vital signs, X-rays and MRI. From the operating table, surgeons control the medical equipment, as well as the lights and images displayed on the wall monitors. They also have access to patient information and reference documents. Throughout the procedure, the surgeon can capture images and save them in the patient's electronic medical record.
New Level 2 Emergency and Trauma Center Opens March 14
The new first-floor emergency center provides a patient and family-centered environment that allows Beaumont to provide high-quality emergency care. Its 39 closed universal treatment rooms increase intimacy. Some of the 39 rooms are "Fast Track", offering accelerated care to patients with minor injuries and illnesses. In addition, the Level 2 Trauma Center has three trauma bays connected by an unobstructed footbridge, providing staff with better visibility and easier access to multiple traumatized patients.

When the entire expansion and renovation will be completed in 2020, it will include:
- more than 193,000 square feet of new construction
- over 61,500 square feet of renovated existing space
In summer, the south tower will open with:
- 80 private patient rooms
- the new main entrance and the hospital reception
- nursing units for orthopedics, oncology, respiratory care, surgery, rehabilitation and women's services
Later in 2019, a brand new area called the Observation Unit will have 19 private medical observation rooms on the first floor, allowing caregivers to treat patients with symptoms such as chest pain, congestive heart failure. and asthma.
By 2020, the space that housed the former Emergency and Trauma Center will reopen with renovated spaces for a total of 58 treatment rooms. The overall footprint of the emergency and trauma center will be almost triple what it was before the expansion and renovation. The patient reception capacity will increase from 65,000 to 88,000 per year.
Also in 2020, 27 private patient rooms in the perioperative period and a large waiting room for modern surgeries will increase the privacy and comfort of patients and their families.

Beaumont Health also offers emergency services in its seven other hospitals in southeastern Michigan and in an autonomous emergency center in Canton.
Beaumont's design and construction partners in the project include HKS Architects, Moren Plante, CRESA Real Estate Consultants, Barton Malow, Michigan's largest builder, and AIM Construction Inc.
Community Open Day, March 2
The public is invited to visit the new Emergency and Trauma Center, operating theaters, critical care rooms and private rooms at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, 28050 Grand River Ave. Saturday, March 2, from 10 am to 1 pm Residents of the area can learn what to do in case of a medical emergency and meet experts who provide care.
