A 55-inch TV is currently rated as medium or even small, which may be surprising if it’s been a few years since you’ve bought one. Companies offer ever lower prices for ever larger screens – we’re talking $ 300 for a perfectly decent budget 55-inch TV – and as low as half that on sale. And in the high end of this market, roughly all the beautiful tv series has a size of 55 inches, and is often the smallest in the range.
Many of these televisions come with all the bells and whistles including full local dimming, OLED displays, 120Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, HDR, a plethora of HDMI ports, and even premium gaming features go with a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X. Oh, and most of them are smart, giving you access to all of your beloved streaming content without using a second device.
TL; DR: The 55 inch size offers more choices than any other. As such, there are many great options. Let me help you decide by listing my favorites.
The list below represents the best TVs I reviewed in CNET’s test lab (for 2020 it’s my basement), where I compare the pros and cons side by side to see which are the most worth buying. Here are my latest recommendations for the best 55 inch TVs, regularly updated. Keep these points in mind as you review my choices:

No TV I have ever tested offers so much picture quality for this little money. The 2020 TCL 6 series delivers even better picture quality than its predecessor, thanks to mini-LED technology and well-implemented full local dimming that allows it to spin in circles around any other TV at this price point. . It’s also a solid choice for gamers with a new THX mode that combines low input lag and high contrast. As if that weren’t enough, the Roku TV operating system is our favorite. What are you saying? You just want the best TV, money with no object? Here is. In my side-by-side testing, the LG CX 2020 is the best TV I have ever reviewed, with worldwide contrast, perfect off-angle viewing, and excellent uniformity. If you can afford it, this is the 55-inch TV for you. Read our LG OLEDCX series review.

Aside from the above TCL 6 series, this is the finalist for Best TV for the Money. The TCL has a better picture and a better smart HDTV system, so it’s a higher quality TV overall, but it’s also a few hundred dollars more expensive. If you can’t afford the 6 Series, this Vizio is a pretty good finalist. Read our Vizio M7-Series Quantum (2020) review.

With overall picture quality comparable to the TCL 6 series above and a price tag that isn’t much more expensive, the X900H’s connection suite is actually better than the TCL. It is the most affordable TV with full 4K / 120Hz HDMI input capability. Read our review of the Sony XBR-X900H series.

Samsung is the TV brand that sells more TVs than anyone else, and our favorite Samsung for the year is the Q80T series. Its sleek design stands out compared to other TVs on this list – although the ultrathin LG CX OLED is even sleeker – and it also offers excellent picture quality, next-gen gaming connectivity, and a great TV system. smart. The above TVs are higher values, but if you still want a Samsung, this is a great choice for gaming or watching TV shows, movies, YouTube TV and more. Other things to know
I’m sure you would be happy with any of the TVs above, but a new 55in TV can be a big investment so maybe you’re looking for a little more info. Here is a quick and dirty list.
- In my opinion, the bigger the better. Big TVs are cheaper than ever, and it’s better to spend your money on big screens rather than a slight improvement in picture quality or resolution.
- If you don’t like the way the built-in smart TV system interacts with your streaming apps, you can always add a media player. After all, there are more streaming services out there with more amazing content than ever before (have you watched The Mandalorian again ?!) Streamers are cheap and easy to use, and they get updates more frequently than most smart TVs. Check out our selection of the best media streamers.
- Most built-in speakers sound awful, so it’s worth pairing your new set with a sound bar or other speaker system. Coupons start at around $ 100. Discover the best soundbars.
Do you have it all? Awesome! Now grab your remote and sit back to watch premium TV.
