We’re set to begin in February, which means another vicious cycle of titles will be hitting streaming services soon. Here’s a look at the best movies leaving HBO Max in February 2021 – and some of them are gone in less than a month, so if you want to catch them while they’re still available, you’d better watch them!

We

Jordan Peele’s Strange Exploration of Identity is a much more abstract film than Get out, but that gave way to a hell of a lot of interpretation (which we gladly engaged in). It’s a hell of a second year movie, full of gripping images and loaded with symbolism. It’s clearly a film with a lot in mind, and more films could learn a lesson from the ambition on display here.

Conspiracy

James Wan’s deceptively simple 2013 horror flick kicked off a whole universe of films, but this one could still be the best of the bunch. It’s tense in all the right places (this applause scene is aces) and terrifying in others (the floating finale makes my skin crawl), but Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s performances are a big part of that. which makes this work better than its contemporaries.

Tango & Cash

A loud, silly and very fun way to spend a few hours, Tango & Cash came out in 1989 and looks like the death knell for some kind of ’80s surplus blockbuster. It doesn’t stand up to today’s standards (there’s tons of gay panic “humor”), but Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone are solid and Jack Palance tears up the scenery and feasting on it with no regard for anyone or anything like the over- best villain.

Doctor Sleep (Director’s Cut)

I think the time will be good for Mike Flanagan’s daring attempt to follow Stanley Kubrick’s The brilliant. And to be honest, this entry reminds me that I need to research this version before it disappears from HBO Max. I saw the theatrical cut when it came out and found a lot to like about it, but I’ve heard that the director’s cut is even better and fixes some of the issues with the theatrical cut.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

A full-length performance by Gene Wilder is central to this absolute classic, and with the recent news that the previous film is advancing, now is the perfect time to revisit Roald Dahl’s crazy world.
