The coronavirus pandemic has pushed crowds of Americans – many of whom wanted more space – to move to new areas of the country. However, Boulder, Colorado, was still the most desired of all, according to a new report.
For the second year in a row, Boulder took first place in the US News & World Report’s Best Places to Live Rankings for 2021-2022. For its data, US News & World Report ranked the 150 most populous metropolitan areas in the country based on affordability, job prospects, and opportunity.

And even though Boulder doesn’t have the most affordable housing compared to other metropolitan areas, it continues to lead the list due to “high quality of life, a labor market and desirability scores,” according to the report. .
“While home values in Boulder have risen, it is the lifestyle that continues to attract buyers to this diverse community,” Michael Hughes, a broker in LIV Sotheby’s International Realty’s office, told FOX Business. Boulder.
Hughes said part of the attraction is that “there is so much to do,” from “going outside to hike, bike, or rock climb, by the way. by the amazing restaurants “.

Overall, “Boulder is a perfect city for singles, families and anyone looking for an open-minded community,” added Hughes.
And now, those who have chosen to relocate to the region will not have to comply with the coronavirus restrictions. Colorado Governor Jared Polis last Thursday lifted the pandemic state of emergency and repealed all related executive orders, citing the state’s progress in fighting the coronavirus.

Behind Boulder are Raleigh and Durham, NC, at No.2, up nine spots from last year. Meanwhile, Huntsville, Ala., Sits in third place, up 12 spots from last year.
Unlike last year, however, this year’s list focuses specifically on how “the most populous metropolitan areas in the United States have suffered much of the coronavirus pandemic” while “seeing how far they will have to come to recover, ”said Devon Thorsby, real estate writer at US News.
Unsurprisingly, “many metropolitan areas that saw the unemployment rate soar in 2020 fell in the rankings” while “those with greater job stability tended to do well”, Thorsby added.

The pandemic has created a major shift in where people prefer to live. In fact, a majority, about 60%, of Americans said they had moved or intended to move to a less populated area, according to a recent US News poll.
Although the trend of people moving from large cities to smaller ones has continued for several years, the pandemic has exacerbated that trend, said Peter Haslag of Vanderbilt University, who conducted the study on the motivations of migrants with Daniel Weagley of Georgia Tech.
