In anticipation of its "Show Time" event of March 25, Apple made this week some announcements about the material via press releases. Here they are.
On Monday, Apple announced a pair of new iPads with the revelation of the 10.5-inch iPad Air and a new iPad mini. Both are compatible with the Apple pencil, while Apple also sells a smart keyboard for the iPad Air. The iPad mini starts at $ 399, while the iPad Air starts at $ 499. The next day, Apple updated the iMac and iMac Pro. The mainstream iMac is now available in new Intel 6 and 8 core processor configurations. There are also new Radeon Pro Vega graphics options. The iMac Pro has also added new RAM and Vega graphics options. Finally, Apple has lowered the price of some SSD upgrades for the Mac.
Completing the announcements related to hardware, Apple unveiled Wednesday a new version of the AirPod. The new AirPods include an upgraded H1 chip, an optional wireless charging holster, the Hey Siri handsfree, and more. More information in our full coverage of ads.
Despite all these announcements about hardware, Apple has not announced this week its long-awaited AirPower charging mat. We have had evidence that the carpet is not dead, however. The Wall Street Journal announced that Apple had "approved the production" of AirPower earlier this year, while hidden images on the Apple site also revealed an updated marketing for this accessory.
A report released Friday by CNET suggests that Apple is looking to supplement the AirPods with the launch of a truly wireless pair of Powerbeats. According to the report, these headphones will be announced in April and could include the same H1 chip as the new version of the AirPods.
In the perspective of next week, Apple will organize its event "Show Time" Monday at the Steve Jobs Theater. This event will mark the launch of the Apple News subscription version of the company, streaming video enhancements, a subscription gaming service, and more.
