My goal is to find the best picture quality for the money, whether you’re looking for a high-end OLED TV or something a little less flashy.
The list below represents the best TVs I reviewed in CNET’s testing lab (for 2020, this is my basement), where I compare picture quality, smart TV, design, and features side by side to see which ones are most worth buying. I look at things like contrast ratio, local dimming, viewing angle and uniformity, game input lag and refresh rate, as well as how the TV supports video services. streaming media such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus. What are you saying? You just want the best TV, no money? Here is. In my side-by-side testing, the LG CX 2020 is the best TV I have ever reviewed, with worldwide contrast, perfect off-angle viewing, and excellent uniformity. If you can afford it, this is the TV for you.

Aside from the above TCL 6 series, it’s the best TV for the money finalist. The TCL has a better picture and a better smart HDTV system, so it’s a higher quality TV overall, but it’s also a few hundred dollars more expensive. If you can’t afford the 6 Series, this Vizio is a pretty good finalist.

If you like the Sony brand, X900H is a great choice, with image quality comparable to the TCL 6 series and a price tag that’s not this much more expensive. And its connection suite is actually better than TCL’s. In winter 2020, it will get full 4K / 120Hz HDMI input capability to maximize the potential of the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and right now it’s the cheapest TV to work with. Roku is our favorite platform for a live TV streaming service like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video, and it’s even better integrated into the TV. This TCL 4 series can’t beat any of the above models in terms of picture quality – its 4K resolution and HDR compatibility do nothing to improve the picture – but it is fine for most people, especially this one. price.

Samsung sells more TVs than anyone else and our favorite for 2020 is the Q80T series. Its sleek design stands out compared to other TVs on this list – although the ultra-thin LG CX OLED is even sleeker – and it also offers excellent picture quality, next-gen gaming connectivity, and excellent performance. smart TV system. For sizes below 55 inches and for people who prefer intelligence over picture quality, these non-4K Roku TVs are the best bet. The picture is “good enough” and the built-in intelligence is superb – just enough to watch the final season of “The Office” or “Friends” content. And the price is perfect for a kid’s room or a secondary room where you don’t need a giant screen.

Other things to know about buying a new TV
I’m sure you would be happy with any of the TVs above, but a new set can be a big investment so maybe you’re looking for a bit more info. Here is a quick and dirty list.
- In my opinion, the bigger the better. Big TVs are cheaper than ever, and it’s better to spend your money on big screens rather than a slight improvement in picture quality.
- If you don’t like the built-in smart TV system, you can always add a media player. They’re cheap and easy to use, and get updates more frequently than most smart TVs. Check out our selection of the best media streamers.
