The first true wireless headphones date back to 2014, but it was the release of Apple's AirPods in 2016 that really propelled them into the media. True wireless means that there is no cord that connects the two earpieces together, unlike wireless headphones such as the Powerbeats3 Wireless or Google Pixel Buds, and they are the next natural progression of headphones without thread. Fewer and fewer people want wires of all kinds, and it's as simple as that.
All true wireless headphones are not identical. In fact, now that there are many on the market, many true wireless headsets are very different. So which ones are right for you? The answer: it depends. It depends on what you will use. It depends on the type of smartphone you have. And that depends on how much you are willing to pay. But the most important factor, and you really do not have this problem when using a headset on-ear or in-ear, is that your true wireless headphones must fit in your ears. And go well. You will never love them if you constantly fear that they will fall.
Apple's AirPods have set the benchmark for wireless headphones so far. These are fantastic wireless headphones – and are now in their second generation – and that's why each pair that has been out since has been labeled as a kind of "AirPod rival". But if you have an Android smartphone, or if you plan to run or work with your wireless headphones, AirPods might not be the best option for you. Anker Soundcore Liberty Air
What are they? Liberty Air Soundcore is Anker's newest wireless headset. They look like AirPods with their long stem, but they do not have the H1 chip that allows them to quickly pair with your iPhone or iPad. The Liberty Air comes with interchangeable silicone tips. So, unlike AirPods, you can adjust the fit and they are also resistant to perspiration. As for the features, the Liberty Air is pretty basic – but that could be exactly what you want.
When were they released? End 2018 or early 2019; Anker tends to release several new wireless headphones each year, so it would not surprise us if a new model came out in the near future.
Who should buy? The best thing about these wireless headphones is that they look like AirPods and yet they are sold at half the price. If you have a limited budget, these are probably the best wireless headphones you can buy.

Bose SoundSport Free
What are they? The company's first wireless headphones are the Bose SoundSport Free. They are equipped with Bose StayHear + Sport Earbuds, identical to all other Bose headphones. So you can expect that they fit perfectly in your ears. On the other hand, the ear buds come out of your ears and may sound a bit awkward. The quality of his signature and percussive bass.
When were they released? September 2017. Bose has already announced the release of two new generation wireless headphones, the Bose Earbuds 500 and Earbuds 700, by the end of 2019 and early 2020, respectively.

When were they released? September 2018. Do not expect Sennheiser to release updated models so soon.

Klipsch T5 True Wireless
What are they? The Klipsch T5 True Wireless is the first pair of true wireless headphones from the high-end audio company. They lack most of the technical features of other truly wireless headphones, and the associated application, which will allow users to change the EQ settings, has not been released yet. But these headphones are among the most powerful headphones we have tested. They cost less than the alternatives of Sennheiser and Master & Dyanmic.
When were they released? July 2019
Who should buy? People looking for true hi-fi wireless headphones cheaper than most competitors. In addition, they must like the look of the Zippo-esque loading case.

Who should buy? Everyone who wants high quality and feature-rich wireless headphones. But most importantly, they should need the best wireless noise-canceling headphones that money can buy (at least until Bose publishes its own versions by 2020).

Master & Dynamic MW07
What are they? The first genuine Master & Dynamic wireless headphones do not look like anything else, mainly because they are luxurious without compromise. They are made of acetate (which you can buy in four different colors) and are delivered in a stainless steel loading case. There is no proprietary application, which is ideal for anyone who does not want to process another one and loads via USB-C.
When were they released? October 2018; do not expect Master & Dynamic to offer second-generation versions in the near future. However, every few months, they publish a new acetate color from which you can choose.
Who should buy? $ 300, it's certainly expensive for true wireless headphones, but you pay for more style, personality and premium materials. If you want wireless headphones that sound good and, above all, look like nothing, the MW07 has no flagrant weakness.

Jabra Elite 65t
What are they? The Elite 65t has powerful drivers offering a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz. They work with an application that allows you to adjust the equalization or to activate listening to hear the ambient sounds. They are also well adjusted to your ears and offer exceptional sound insulation. With a set of four microphones (two in each headset), the calls are clear and the buttons on the earpieces are easy to use without disrupting the seal.
When were they released? January 2018; you can find great deals on the Elite 65t and expect Jabra to launch new headphones over the next year.
Who should buy? If you do not want AirPod or if they do not hold your ear, get them. The Elite 65t works perfectly and its fit is totally different from that of the AirPods. The other major advantage is that, thanks to their network of four microphones, they are very efficient to take calls. Only disadvantage: with such a tight fit, wearing them for long periods of time can cause hearing fatigue.

Jabra Elite Active 65t
What are they? The Elite Active 65t are sweat-resistant versions of the company's Elite 65t elite. They look identical and work well for taking calls and exercising. The difference is that they have a more adherent exterior, so that they stay in your ears when you move, and that they offer more resistance to sweating.
When were they released? April 2018; you can sometimes find bargains on the Elite Active 65t.
Who should buy? These are ideal for active professionals. If you like the style and fit of the Jabra Elite 65t and you pay the extra $ 20, which is essentially a sweat insurance policy, it's a great option. Otherwise, simply buy the non-active alternatives.

Apple AirPods (2019)
What are they? The second-generation AirPods look the same as those launched in 2016 and work almost exactly the same, but they have made good progress in a number of ways. With the new H1 chip, they associate faster, have better battery life and better pickups. And they support "Hey Siri" voice commands, so you do not need to press a button to activate the voice assistant. Apple now also offers a wireless charging case, provided you pay a little more.
When were they released? March 2019; do not expect Apple to release new AirPods so soon.
Who should buy? Even with second-generation wireless headsets, AirPods still have two disadvantages. You need an iOS device to get the most out of them and they do not stand up to water, so you probably should not work with them. That said, if you have an iPhone, these are by far the best wireless headphones you can buy.

Sony WF-SP700N
What are they? The Sony WF-SP700N is the company's first true wireless earpiece. They have a sweat-resistant design with fairly large ears, so they are optimized for active people. Sony has since released the WF-1000M3, much more advanced wireless headphones.
When were they released? Spring 2018; you should expect Sony to release newer and better versions in the near future.
Who should buy? If you can find a very good deal on these headsets, the WF-SP700N is worth it. However, do not expect noise-canceling headphones to suppress noise – noise cancellation is not very good. If you are waiting for wireless headphones with noise suppression, I suggest you wait for the Bose Noise Canceling 700 headphones, which will be released in the coming months.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay E8 2.0
The picture above is that of the Beoplay E8 and not the updated Beoplay E8 2.0 that supports wireless charging.
What are they? The Beoplay E8 2.0 is basically the same as B & O's first-generation product, the Beoplay E8, but the "2.0" models can be recharged wirelessly. They load via USB-C and support Bluetooth 4.2 and AAC codecs. They are built with advanced electrodynamic drivers and can produce a wide frequency range (20-20,000 Hz). You can also adjust the equalizer and the sound signature via an associated application.
When were they released? February 2019; do not expect new wireless headphones from B & O in the near future. However, Bang & Olufsen released a more sport-oriented version, the Beoplay E8 Motion ($ 350), in May 2019.
Who should buy? As for sound quality, the E8 is one of the best sound options on this list. If you like the sound of B & O and want a case for a wireless charge, then that's a good option. However, it is clear that they are expensive and that the application can be frustrating to use.

Notable absentees
The above selections are not the only wireless headphones you can buy. As mentioned earlier, more and more audio companies are releasing their own version of wireless headphones. We therefore wish to mention at least some of the other offers that we have not officially tested or commented on to date.
Jaybird Run XT
Launched in early 2019, the Jaybird Run XT is the updated model of the company's true wireless sports headphones, Run. They're more waterproof and sweat-resistant, and offer more options for sound customization via the Jaybird companion app. We did not have the chance to test the new models, but we hope to do it soon.
Jaybird Vista
Vista is Jaybird's latest wireless headset; Appeared at Run XT above, they are very similar in that they use the same app and are designed for athletes. However, Jaybird has improved connectivity (Bluetooth 5.0) and has significantly refined the profile of the earphones and the charging case. We will have a review of Jaybird Vista in the coming weeks.
Google Pixel Buds
The Google Pixels Buds buttons are not technically true wireless headphones, so we have omitted them for this list.
Samsung Galaxy Buds
These second-generation Samsung wireless headphones were released in early 2019. They are designed to work well with the Samsung Galaxy S10. Key features include wireless charging as well as USB-C. They are also relatively affordable. We have not tested the Galaxy Buds yet, but they probably only make sense if you have a Samsung smartphone.
RHA TrueConnect
These are the first true wireless headphones of the RHA. They have the shape of a long stem resembling that of the AirPod, but with interchangeable silicone tips to allow you to adjust your fit.
