The big NBA Larry Bird complains after an artist paints a mural with tattoos all over his body

The artwork located on the side of a residential building represents the native of Indiana dressed in a basketball jersey with tattoos on the face, the arms and the neck.

But Bird's lawyer, Gary Salle, told CNN that his famous client was not pleased with this resemblance.

"Larry's only problem with the mural is the tarnishing of his image and his" mark "by putting tattoos on his body," said Hall, adding that he had received a photo of the Bird's art work last Friday.

The piece was made by Californian artist Jules Muck and published on his Instagram page last Thursday. Many commentators have said they like the mural.

CNN sought the advice of Muck but did not get an answer.

Muck painted murals for television shows and films, including "It," and made several large-scale murals in the Wynwood district of Miami for the Art Basel event of that city. His works are in New York, New Orleans, Texas and California, according to his website.
Bird's team sent an email to Muck asking him to take the illustration and citing "unauthorized promotional value for his brand" and six trademarks belonging to Bird, according to the affiliate from CNN, WISH.

"He wears colors that match the building," Muck told WISH. "I thought it was aesthetically perfect, I also thought that if I had to paint Larry Bird, I had to paint Larry Bird in Indianapolis.

"That being said, I was not trying to create a prestigious garment," she added. "I'm also having fun with my work and I like to make people laugh."

Muck told WISH that the owner of the multi-family home in Indianapolis had ordered it for the Bird wall painting.

Room told CNN that after dealing with "several problems in a series of texts and phone calls", Muck had agreed to modify the mural to remove all tattoos other than the word "Indiana" on Bird's left forearm.

Hall says that he thinks it's a reasonable solution to the dispute.

"Larry's" mark "is not tarnished, and Jules's mural maintains some of the nervousness that she wishes in her work," he said.

Bird is three-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics. He has won three consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player titles, was voted 12 stars and was twice the most valuable player in the NBA finals. After finishing his playing career in 1992, he returned to the NBA as head coach of the Indiana Pacers and later as president of the Pacers basketball operations.

Bird's mural is not the first time Muck's work has been questioned, according to WISH.

Muck's painting of rabbits at an Indiana restaurant received mixed reviews last year and was finally withdrawn, WISH said.
