The harsh circumstances of autumn affect almost a handful of teams. Eight of the ten playoff teams have been formed and three of them – the Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians – are competing for the last two places. For all the others, it will wait until next year.
This includes four renowned franchises that have nominated candidates weak enough to rank among the real disappointments of the year; this is certainly the case of the reigning world champions, the Boston Red Sox.
