Similar to the 7 Series, the 8 Series based on ARSet Architecture in all configurations is equipped with the ZF 8HP automatic transmission that BMW has been using for a very long time. The M8 will use the M5's M xDrive, which means the 8 Series can be configured to send 100% of the engine's resources to the rear axle.
"Some things in life are worth waiting for," says BMW Deutschland about the Gran Coupe, and we do not see the value of this guarantee given that the Series 8 is nothing more than what the Bavarians called the Series 6. Adding insult to injury , BMW also uses CLAR in models as low as the 3 series.
It should also be remembered that the original 8 series was offered with a V12 while the second coming can not do better than the S63. The twin-turbo V8 is from 2010 and can be rooted in the N63 since 2008.
A recent report suggests that Series 7 could be without the V8 and V12 for the next generation of the full-size luxury sedan. That would be a 180-degree change for BMW, the manufacturer responsible for the McLaren F1's high-rev V12.
To return to our attention on the 8 Series Gran Coupé, the G16 will be premiering from June 25th to 27th at the #NextGen event in Munich. On the other hand, sales are expected to begin in September 2019.
