It's no secret that BMW is working on a facelift for the 5 Series. We have seen the testing of high-end models on public roads in the likes of sedans and wagons, and this new batch of new spy photos gives us a first glimpse of the all-new M5 lineup. This slightly camouflaged prototype gives a preview of what to expect when the facelifted model arrives during the second half of next year.
Even the untrained eye will notice the amount of camouflage leaf on the front. It hides a revised front fascia with what appears to be redesigned laser headlights, incorporating different internal graphics for LED daytime running lights. The kidney grid seems to be a little bigger than before, but we can confirm it once this disguise has been removed. The bumper probably has some modifications, including remodeled air intakes and a new lower grille.

It's a story like the back. The revisions are not major, but the camouflage suggests some corrections in the design of the taillights. In fact, the entire rear bumper is disguised, which could mean that the diffuser and the general layout could be tweaked. The exhaust pipes seem unchanged compared to the M5 currently on sale.
Unfortunately, we have no details about the mechanics of the performance sedan. The M5 is currently powered by a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, developing 591 horsepower (441 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque in standard form. The M5 competition has 617 (460 kW) and the same torque levels.
Although we expected the engine to match the updated model, it could be modified to provide a little more power and less CO2 emissions. Modifications to the suspension and brakes could also be considered, but nothing can be confirmed yet.
