MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police confirmed that a body found in April in an Oregon home was that of the missing man, Dennis Day, who was one of the first members of Disney's "The Mickey Mouse Club".
The Oregon Medical Examiner's Office identified the body, although they could not use dental records or DNA due to the condition leftover, Oregon State Police said Thursday. Police are still investigating Day's death.
Her husband, Ernie Caswell, said that he had disappeared in July. He was suffering from memory loss and was in the hospital when he made this statement.
Day's car, July 26, was found on the coast of Oregon. A missing person's report stated that Day had "unusually" left his dog with a friend on the day of his disappearance.
In February, members of Day's family spoke to the "Dateline" television channel, claiming that the investigation into Day's disappearance had been misdirected.
Day's body was found at his home in Phoenix, Oregon in early April.
Friends and parents had created the Facebook page "Help us find Dennis Day". In a Thursday article, Day's niece, Janel Showers, of Clovis, Calif., Thanked the Facebook group for her "love and support," as well as Oregon police investigators for their efforts. .
"Our family is so grateful to the Oregon State Police for helping to put an end to our family's situation so that we can finally let Dennis rest," said Showers. .
Day was born in 1942. After moving to California, he begins to perform at the age of 6 years. At the age of 10, he is part of the first group of kids hired for the Disney show.
Day and Caswell moved to Oregon in the 1980s.
