Authorities looking in an isolated part of southern Oregon discovered what they believed to be the body of the missing actor Charles Levin, police said Sunday.

Investigators first discovered Levin's car on Saturday night near an impassable path, with his dead pug, Boo Boo Bear, inside, the Grants Pass public safety ministry said in a statement.

The apparent remains of Levin were found later after a search and rescue team conducted a search on the grid of "very steep and rugged terrain," the statement said.

The forensic pathologist still has to identify these remains, the police said in his statement, although there is a "high probability" that they are "based on the circumstances".

We did not know immediately how Levin could have died.

The body was found in Josephine County, north of the state border of California.

Levin, 70, has appeared in Hill Street Blues, Alice, Seinfeld, NYPD Blue and Law and Order in dozens of television and film roles from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Levin reportedly disappeared after his son called the Grants Pass City Police Department on Monday, according to a local newspaper, the Medford Mail Tribune.

Levin lived in Grants Pass and moved from one house to another when he disappeared, the newspaper reported.
