The US Border Patrol on Tuesday morning apprehended its largest group of illegal immigrants arrested at once, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported.

According to CBP, 424 illegal aliens were apprehended shortly after midnight in Sunland Park, New Mexico; 230 more foreigners were apprehended in Antelope Wells, Massachusetts, around 2 am

"This is a recurring situation faced by US border patrol officers in southern New Mexico: hundreds of parents and children encountered by agents after facing a dangerous journey between smugglers without scruples, "said CBP in a statement. "Criminal organizations continue to exploit innocent lives to reinforce their illicit activities without worrying about the risks of human life. In most cases, these smugglers never cross the border themselves in order to avoid apprehension. "
