Max Fried worked five innings and the pen shone in a 5-3 win for the Atlanta Braves on the Diamondbacks of Arizona.
The Braves took the lead in the second against Zack Godley (Arizona). Ender Inciarte dominated the match with Johan Camargo and the two outs of second base to allow Atlanta to take the 1-0 advantage.
Godley was replaced by Jon Duplantier to start the third and he was immediately in trouble. A fastball came and struck Ronald Acuña Jr. with the hand to start the inning. Fried would leave after the fifth after allowing nine hits and three points while eliminating seven. He made 95 shots with 62 of them on strike.
Arizona would threaten again in the seventh game against Sean Newcomb. Jones jumped on a fast first-step ball for a single in the lead and was third on a Ketel Marte single. Eduardo Escobar then flew to Markakis right for the first start. Markakis's throw passed the man-cut, which allowed Marte to move up to second place. With the win, Atlanta improves to 21-20 in the season and finishes his 10-game road trip with a 6-4 record. They will return home and enjoy a day off Monday before opening a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday at SunTrust Park.
