WILDWOOD – At least two bridges collapsed early Saturday night in a three-story residential building, causing injuries, according to first responders.
The images released by 6 ABC Action News show a major emergency intervention on Baker Avenue, while remains of the fallen structures are on the sidewalk below. The outside seems to have two lines from which the bridge has been ripped off the building.
Police on the spot told ABC Action News 6 that the incident occurred around 6 pm.
Dominick Marino, president of the New Jersey Professional Firefighters Association, said that ten people had been hospitalized. He did not have details about the age, sex or situation of the victims.
The accident occurred at the annual firefighters convention in New Jersey, which takes place every September in Wildwood.
The Cape May Regional Health System reports that 21 people are treated there after Saturday's collapse in Wildwood. At least three are children.
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City indicates that at least one additional person was taken there to be treated.
The Sussex County Fire Chief's Association reported on its Facebook page that 6 to 8 members of Branchville Hose Branch 1 were on the second floor deck at the time of the collapse. All but one of their members have been released from a hospital.
The Wildwood Police did not immediately return a message. Wildwood Fire Chief Daniel Speigel said more information on the collapse would be released Sunday.
