The car crashes into the house; the owner pleads for help from the city

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A car crashed into a house early Saturday morning in the Harborview neighborhood, near Lem Turner Road.

“It was like a bomb went off to be honest with you,” said a resident who lives inside the house with his family. He requested that his name not be published with this story. “A big bomb went off and everything went everywhere.”

Pieces of concrete and debris could be seen all over the front and to the side of the property. The electric wires were out of order and JEA had to cut off the electricity and running water until repairs could be made. The family opened a GoFundMe account to raise funds to cover the cost of repairing the house.

The man told News4Jax that a car driving on Clyde Drive after midnight had pulled off the road and headed straight into his living room. Four people were inside at the time. No one was hurt.

“My family was scared,” he said.

“I was on the other side lying on the couch watching TV when I heard a big explosion,” the man said.

He said he slipped behind his sofa, but he recognized the sound.

Two and a half years ago, the family said, the same thing happened and just two weeks ago another car entered another house in their neighborhood.

“I tried to contact my city councilor, but we need some curbs on the side to protect us,” he said. “We could save a life or lose a life to be honest with you. That’s why I’m here tonight. I’m begging the city of Jacksonville to do something about this curve. If you look over there the city lights are on, but they’re dim and it’s a twisty corner.

City Council has listened to people about a petition to fix issues on Soutel Drive, which is on the corner of Clyde Street, but area residents fear the city is tackling the wrong issue .

News4Jax has reached out to City Councilor Brenda Priestly Jackson, who represents the area, for comment, but we have yet to receive a response. We will update if we get a response.

New4Jax also contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for more information on the crash.

There are two schools in the immediate vicinity.
