The coastal areas of South Carolina and North Carolina are likely to experience heavy rainfall, storm surge and high winds as Hurricane Dorian moves to the southeast coast. Charleston, S.C., is expected to experience one of the highest water levels ever recorded. Some places can see up to 5 to 8 feet of storm surge flooding, adding to the already astronomical high tides.

Hurricane Dorian is a particularly serious threat to the shoreline due to the extended storm wind field, with hurricane force winds extending 70 miles from the center of the storm and tropical storm winds reaching the 175 miles of the eye.
