The CBS and Showtime bundle is no longer available through the Apple TV app, before the launch of Paramount +

About a week ago, the CBS All Access and Showtime bundle for Apple TV + was no longer available and has only lasted for five months since its launch in August 2020. This bundle has given Apple TV + subscribers access to CBS All Access and Showtime for $ 9.99 per month, which is a significant 50% savings.

Although current plan subscribers can still access the service, it is no longer possible to register for the plan as a new user. This is probably because Viacom is preparing to end CBS All Access in favor of its new streaming platform: Paramount +, which will launch in the United States from March 4.

Although this has not been officially confirmed by Apple or Viacom at this point, it does not appear that Paramount + is offered as an Apple TV channel in the TV app. This means that customers will instead have to download a third-party “Paramount +” app from the App Store to access CBS content in the future.

We saw a similar timeline of events unfold when HBO launched HBO Max in May of last year. The company removed the ability to watch through Apple TV channels once HBO Max launched.

It is not known how long subscribers to the CBS All Access + Showtime plan will be able to continue to enjoy the discounted offer. Apple has not announced any changes to the package so far, although removing the bundle for new registrations does not inspire confidence. (For third-generation Apple TV owners, the company has previously announced that CBS All Access will stop operating as part of the Paramount + transition.)

In general, content networks seem to prefer streaming through their own apps rather than services like Apple TV channels, as this allows them to maintain more control over their own platform and access demographics. and more detailed marketing on customers.

Unfortunately, this means that the Channels offer of the TV application is decreasing day by day. Apple TV channels generally provide a better user experience for end customers, as they can pay through their Apple ID and watch unlocked shows and movies natively inside the TV app, without being sent back to third-party apps. .
