Jet Blue passengers booking inexpensive flights should be prepared to take less luggage.
Passengers who buy JetBlue’s “Blue Basic” tickets will have to pay extra to carry a bag stored in hanging bins from July 20, the company said in a note Tuesday.

JetBlue said it would only allow customers who buy its standard coach fares, including its Blue, Blue Extra and Mint business class tickets, for domestic flights, in overhead storage.

“Starting July 20, we will limit Blue Basic fares purchased from February 25 to a single personal item that sits under the seat,” Joanna Geraghty, President and COO of JetBlue said in the memo.

As airlines continue to struggle during the pandemic over the number of trips booked, the New York-based airline continues to compete with low-cost carriers like Spirit by lowering prices. Likewise, United Airlines is also requiring customers with basic economy class tickets to pay for the upper ferry space.

JetBlue says that if there is a lack of space in the hanging bins, those who purchased tickets with hand luggage included will receive a $ 25 travel credit valid for one year.
