You’d be forgiven for forgetting that the Olympics are just around the corner – so early, in fact, that some of the preliminary events are starting today. Postponed for a year from the original launch date, Tokyo 2020 continues to be unlike any Olympic event in recent memory. While there’s no chance you’ll attend any of the games in person, you can enjoy a new Olympics-themed minigame from Google featuring everyone’s favorite dinosaur.

Chrome’s Hidden Jump mini-game has been around since 2014, and it has even received a few improvements since launch. To celebrate the Olympics in style, Google has added new event-themed levels, which you can activate by grabbing the torch while playing a level opening. Horse jumping, gymnastics, and hurdles were all featured in random levels, although I could only play the themed scenes on my phone. Unfortunately, it looks like these new levels haven’t made it into the desktop version of Chrome.

It’s a fun little distraction, even if it comes with the Tokyo Games still on hold a few days before the Opening Ceremony. COVID-19 continues to be considered in these events, with fan participation being restricted and cancellation talks only launched yesterday. So while you may not be able to fly to Japan to experience the Olympics yourself – and depending on the increase in cases over the next two weeks, you may not be able to finish watching them. on TV – at least you can get the thrill of landing a new high score as the Dino rides to victory.

If you want to try them out for yourself, head over to chrome: // dino on your phone to get started.
