Unless you have your head stuck in the sand, you may have heard of a certain large vessel currently blocking the Suez Canal. One of the most important trade routes in the world, the blockade has disrupted a large number of freighters and results in an estimated trade loss of $ 6 billion to $ 10 billion.
Of course, still with the sympathetic and benevolent force, the internet has come out in pristine form to create an abundance of memes, experience more hilarious parts of the story, and even make games based on it.
Now, a Microsoft Flight Simulator modder has updated the game by adding Ever Given to the Suez Canal in-game. For a game that prides itself on realism and precise simulation, this is really appropriate.
In a video posted to TikTok, user @donut_enforcement shared the edited creation as he hovered over the Suez Canal, commenting on the hilarious new model. He accompanied the video with the caption “Microsoft Flight Sim is a Savage,” and we’re inclined to agree.

The Ever Given is a Golden class container ship, making it one of the largest ships in the world, operated by Evergreen Marine. While on a standard route to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the 220,000-ton vessel was blown sideways by a severe dust storm, causing it to spin and firmly wedging both ends in the narrow banks of the Suez Canal. With a tiny width of less than 1,000 feet at its narrowest point, the Suez Canal is a nightmare for large ships to navigate already, not to mention poor visibility and strong winds.
Captain Bill Kavanaugh, Senior Lecturer in Navigation at the National Maritime College of Ireland, told The Pat Kenny Show what the stress of traveling through this international choke point really looks like.
“The procedure is very stressful for the ship. These ships are on the high seas and have a very good routine. Then they arrive in Port Said or even in Suez… and suddenly all hell breaks loose. Kavanaugh explains.
Fortunately, there seems to be hope in the story. Even today, the Ever Given was finally refloated from shore, correcting the course by 80%. While the bow remains housed in shallow water, rescue teams hope to attempt to move the ship once high tide arrives later in the day. However, experts warn that it will not be an easy operation and that we need to be careful before the hopes are too high.
In the meantime, ESA has now released incredible satellite images depicting the Ever Given housed in its position on March 25 and the resulting traffic jams saved in the Gulf of Suez.
