The family of Cream's drummer and co-founder, Ginger Baker, said the musician was "gravely ill" at the hospital.
The news was broadcast on Baker's social networks, with the following short statement: "Announcement. Ginger is seriously ill at the hospital. If you like, keep it in your prayers. Thank you everybody."
No other details have been published by the family.
Baker has suffered from health problems in recent years. The drummer was forced to cancel a number of concerts in February 2016 after a fall and the diagnosis of a serious heart disease requiring surgery.
He then thanked the doctors and was back at the fundraising concert organized by Jack Bruce in London in October of the same year.
In an interview with Classic RockBaker addressed his health problems by saying, "It's very, very painful. I have a lower back problem, and the more I play, the worse the situation. It's painful to beat.
"My right knee is a terrible problem: sometimes it becomes difficult to play. I have a big problem with my wrists. My doctor told me it was arthritis and that we could do nothing more. It's just pain.
Baker formed Cream in 1966 with Bruce and Eric Clapton, then trained Ginger Baker's Air Force and played with several bands, including Hawkwind, and recorded more than a dozen albums with his latest album. Why? arrival in 2014.
