The 73rd Annual Emmy Awards returned Sunday night to celebrate the best in television. Actor and comedian Cedric the Animator hosted the ceremony in downtown Los Angeles, making him the second black solo host in the history of the event.

“Ted Lasso” entered the night with the most nominations, 13, and won four, including wins for Outstanding Lead Actor in One Comedy Series and One Outstanding Comedy Series. “The Crown” ended up with the most wins, racking up seven Emmys.

Multi-talented actress, singer, dancer, choreographer and director Debbie Allen received the 2021 Governor’s Award. RuPaul also made history by winning the most Emmys ever won by a person of color.

The annual event had a limited in-person audience consisting of nominees and their guests. It’s a change from last year’s show, which was partially virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, all attendees were asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, the Television Academy said.
