The last season of The crown has sparked a trolling campaign against Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, following a portrayal of their relationship during his marriage to the late Princess Diana.

The Netflix series chronicling the British monarchy returned for its fourth season last week. This left the public with strong feelings about the couple who married in 2005, more than 30 years after their first date.

The fourth season features a young Diana Spencer, portrayed by Emma Corrin, and details her path to becoming the Princess of Wales and life in the spotlight.

The season provided a glimpse into the complex nature of the marriage between Diana and Charles, portraying the future King of the United Kingdom as harsh, critical and often resentful of Diana’s worldwide popularity.

Imagine being a royal courtier & amp; spend more than 20 years trying to save the image of prince Charles only for #TheCrown to make it all disappear a few episodes of season 4 ??

It was his long-standing relationship with Camilla, with whom he dated in 1971 and with whom he had a close friendship, in particular, that proved to be the breaking point.

Speaking about her marriage in one of her more candid interviews with the BBC, Diana said: “Well there were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded.”

The popularity of the show helped resurgent support for the late Diana, who died in 1997, and further scrutiny from Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Fans of the show took to the Royal Family’s official social media accounts to troll Camilla.

Comment sections are inundated, with Diana Stan declaring her as the “only princess” they recognize while hunting down the couple for their historic infidelity.

An online user wrote under a photo of the 73-year-old: “Please stop forcing Camilla down her throat.”

The most recent photo of the Duchess has significantly fewer likes than other photos posted during the same period.

“I understand that was a long time ago, but honestly I’m upset that Camilla is a married woman and Charles is married to Diana, but they have completely ignored their spouse and now they are being congratulated as a future king and queen. happy forever, ”one user wrote.

Some have come to the couple’s defense pointing out that the couple are still in love and have gone beyond the issues depicted on the show.

“The point is, Camilla does a great job, boys are cool with it, Charles was forced to marry (as you got your education from Netflix, you should know) and Diana herself wasn’t a lamb. So calm down and overcome yourself.

Another wrote: “Team Camilla, you can’t stop real love.”

On TikTok, users drew comparisons between the two women and criticized Charles’ treatment of Diana as portrayed on the show.

The factual accuracy of the series has been called into question – in a letter from the Queen’s Communications Secretary released by The Guardian last year, a spokesperson for the Royal Family pointed out that the show did not the royal family’s seal of approval.

“The Royal Household has never agreed to monitor or approve the content, have not asked what topics will be included and would never express an opinion as to the accuracy of the program.”

Netflix declined to comment.
