Motorists and residents of the Hudson River will have the opportunity to see the bridge of the governor, Mr. Mario M. Cuomo, illuminate with teal to mark the national month of Tourette syndrome awareness this Saturday.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered the bridge to be lit in teal to honor people with the disease, according to a press release.

"Tourette's syndrome is far more prevalent than most people think and even if there are treatments for this incurable disease, they often represent a financial burden for patients and their families," Cuomo said.

Westchester-based Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins hopes that awareness will help those affected.

"Thousands of New York families are affected by Tourette's Syndrome, and eliminating stigma and awareness of this disorder will help improve their quality of life," said Stewart-Cousins.

People with Tourette syndrome manifest involuntary repetitive movements and vocalizations called tics, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Last week, the bridge was lit in orange on the occasion of National Armed Violence Awareness Day.
