Simon Gallup, bassist for The Cure, left the band after four decades.
The 61-year-old musician announced his separation in a brief statement on Saturday.
“With a heavy heart, I am no longer a member of the Cure! Good luck everyone, ”he wrote on Facebook.
When a follower asked for information, Gallup said he was “just fed up with the betrayal,” with no further explanation.
The Cure, founded in 1978, did not publicly respond to the announcement on Monday morning. However, teammate Roger O’Donnell may have referred to Gallup’s departure in a tweet on Saturday.
“A friend just told me that they saw Lol at the Guitar Center buy a bass ???????” wrote O’Donnell, 65, apparently referring to co-founder and ex-drummer Lol Tolhurst.
Over the past 40 years, Gallup, who also occasionally played the keyboard, has been featured on 11 of the group’s 13 albums, including an upcoming release, which is said to be their last, according to a recent NME interview with the frontman of The Cure. , Robert Smith, 62 years old. .
