Hartford – The state of Connecticut plans to purchase up to 2,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Monday that it has issued a request for proposals for offshore wind energy, as required by a new law. DEEP indicates that it is the first solicitation of the state devoted specifically to the development of offshore wind and that the schedule is consistent with a similar solicitation of offshore wind energy. Connecticut Democratic Governor Ned Lamont said the new petition represented "the future of the environmental, energy and economic potential of the state". The state is already considering acquiring approximately 300 megawatts of offshore wind power as part of the Wind Wind Project, planned in federal waters south of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
Tenders must be sent by 30 September.
