Today, around 10 am Pacific time, the host of the Hackaday site is down. All the websites of the WordPress VIP Go platform were down, including Hackaday. For about 45 minutes, you could not load content. A little over two hours later, we could only display the default WordPress theme with an extremely bright background.
At first we looked at a broken homepage with nothing. We changed some things in the background and we had a black text on a white background displaying our latest articles. Not ideal, but at least you could catch up with your reading if you're good at it then.
But wait! Unexpected consequences are a real brake. Our theme does not contain embedded comments to cover pages and blog, but to WordPress stock themes. The comments left on these pages have been sent to your RSS feeds. I would like to apologize for that. Once this has been reported, we have disabled comments on these pages and removed what was found there. But if you have a cached RSS reader, you'll still be able to see it, sorry for that.
As I type this, everything should return to normal. The front end was restored around 13:00 Pacific time. We have maintained our normal publication schedule and hope you have had a good laugh at this debacle. It may take a few days before I can laugh.
