The biggest revelation of CD Projekt Red from E3 was that Keanu Reeves would be in Cyberpunk 2077. It was an amazing time for all Reeves fans or for the new Cyberpunk game, an even bigger time for the parties where these fandoms overlap, and according to the developer, no one would have to fill that role. from Johnny Silverhand except Reeves. Reeves would play the character or it would be a traditionally voiced NPC.
Miles Tost, high-level designer at CD Projekt Red, who works on Cyberpunk 2077, told Destructoid about the studio's decision to play Reeves in the game. Tost said the character's goal was not to have a Hollywood celebrity on the list of stars on board and they thought that Reeves would be a good choice for the role.
"It was him or no one," Tost told Destructoid. "It was our state of mind, we did not think" we need a star for this role ", but rather" Hey, he may be the perfect character "and thankfully, everything worked out well for us. "
Tost went on to describe the relationship between the two parties and the decision of both parties to give Reeves the role of "almost organic". After designing the character and the story around the NPC, the studio felt that it would be a "really cool" fit. for Reeves to play the role.
Reeves obviously agreed to play the role as you can see in the trailer above if you did not catch it when it aired at E3. Tost has some ideas as to why the actor would have accepted the role.
"I'm just speculating, but he may have seen the similarities we saw between him and [Johnny Silverhand] and that could have attracted him, "Tost said. "In addition, Johnny Silverhand, singer of the Samurai group and one of the biggest rebels in the Cyberpunk universe. A legend. This sounds like a story that might interest someone like Keanu. "
We'll hear a lot about Reeves – or Johnny Silverhand, depending on what you prefer to watch from the NPC's point of view – because he has the second most important dialogue in the game. Since then, Reeves has talked at length about his role in the game and stated that he did not think games needed celebrities like these, as he had done for the medium to be legitimate.
Cyberpunk 2077 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms on April 16, 2020.
