The popular animated series Hataraku Maō-sama! – known in English as The Devil Is a Part-Timer! – returns for a second season eight years after its initial conclusion.

The devil is a partial timekeeper Season 2 was announced today at Kadokawa Corporation’s Light Novel Expo. The first trailer and key art for the new season have been released, the first of which confirms the return of the original Japanese voice cast. That being said, no plot details or release date are available at this time, nor has it been confirmed if the original English cast will return as well (although they certainly seem interested).

The series follows Demon Lord Satan, who aims to conquer the world of Ente Isla by annexing its four continents. Standing in his way is the hero Emilia, who kills two of Satan’s demon generals, forcing him and one of his other generals, Alciel, to flee Ente Isla, at which point they end up in modern-day Tokyo. In order to survive, a discharged Satan (under the pseudonym Sadao Maou) gets a part-time job at a fast food restaurant called MgRonald’s – and quickly becomes a model employee.

The devil is a partial timekeeper! started life as a series of Japanese light novels written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by 029, which lasted from February 2011 to August 2020. A manga adaptation written by Wagahara and illustrated by Akio Hiiragi launched in 2012. It is still in progress today and spawned a number of spinoffs, including the entire Alternate Universe The devil is a partial timekeeper! High school! – written by Wagahara and illustrated by Kurone Mishima – which ran from 2012 to 2015.

An animated adaptation of The devil is a partial timekeeper! was produced by White Fox and directed by Naoto Hosoda. It initially ran for a single 13-episode season, which premiered in April 2013 and ended a few months later in June 2013. The newly announced Season 2 animation crew has yet to be announced, although the trailer features slightly different art. style as season 1.
