The Devotion Independent Horror Game Could Never Come Back To Steam

It's been almost five months since the Taiwanese gaming studio Red Candle Games released its latest title, the horror game Devotion, of sale. In the midst of the controversy he had included a derogatory remark about Chinese President Xi Jinping in Devotion, the studio apologized and withdrew the game of Steam to perform a "complete quality assurance check" on all graphics of the game.

Devotion did not return to Steam and, according to a new developer statement, it does not appear that the game will reappear anytime soon or at all.

Update of Red Candle Games on Devotion is deeply sorry, both for his publishing partner for the controversy (that the studio calls "a malfunction of project management, not for a deliberate act") and for players who do not have been able to buy the game.

"We made a critical and unprofessional mistake when producing the game," Red Candle Games said in Twitter and Facebook posts. "We are saddened by the fact that the goal of the game has changed dramatically since the discovery of the wrong artistic asset. A revision fix was put in place immediately as we have absolutely no intention of making a publicity stunt.

"However, as a result of the incident, some still possess different speculations about Devotion. As regrettable as the incident was, we must bear all the consequences. We hope for a second chance in the near future. A chance to prove it, Red Candle and his partner just wanted to create a great game and nobody wanted such an incident to happen. "

Red Candle offers a faint glimmer of hope that Devotion could go back to digital stores, but only if "the public would be willing to watch this game rationally and allow us to restore trust with our players."

The developer's comment comes shortly after reports Devotion Indievent publisher recently saw its commercial license revoked by the Chinese government, a decision that would have been "100% because of Devotion" and the controversy that followed.

The complete statement of Red Candle is below:

Greetings,

We are Red Candle Games from Taiwan. To all our players, industry and media friends, we would like to review 'Devotion'.

(1) Over the past four months, the devotion incident, which was the subject of art, caused immeasurable harm to Red Candle Games and our partner. We wish to extend our sincerest apologies to all affected teams and employees. Red Candle and his partner assume all the responsibilities for the losses; we will not stop in our efforts to prevent further damage.

(2) This incident had a significant and negative impact on all parties. Our partner has made every effort to help Red Candle. While mediation is still ongoing, the co-founders of Red Candle have taken the unanimous decision not to re-issue "Devotion" in the short term, including to gain a profit on sales, overhaul, approval of intellectual property, etc. false idea.

(3) In reflecting on the situation, we find that many actors, industry friends and media are beginning to understand that the incident was actually a malfunction of project management and not a deliberate act. If, in the future, the public agrees to see this game rationally and allow us to restore trust with our players, Red Candle would reconsider the possibility of releasing 'Devotion'.

As such, we wish to apologize to the players for waiting. We are really sorry, but please understand our decision.

Red Candle is grateful that our partner has entrusted us unreservedly with the development of the game over the past two years. Unfortunately, we did not meet their expectations and caused them undue hardship. Red Candle, the only developer of the game, is inexcusable as a result of this incident. We hope that our partner and related parties can be exempted from further criticism.

Since the creation of Red Candle Games in 2015, we have dedicated ourselves to creating the best gaming experience for our audience worldwide. In "Devotion", his central message is "the tragedy of a loving family twisted by the frantic belief of a religious cult".

We made a critical and unprofessional mistake when producing the game. We are saddened by the fact that the game's goal has changed dramatically since the discovery of the wrong artistic asset. A revision fix was put in place immediately as we have absolutely no intention of making a publicity stunt.

However, in the aftermath of the incident, some still have different speculations about "devotion". As regrettable as the incident was, we must bear all the consequences. We hope for a second chance in the near future. A chance to prove it, Red Candle and his partner just wanted to create a great game and nobody wanted such an incident to happen.

Rest assured that Red Candle Games will continue its passion for creativity as a gaming company.

Thank you for your valuable support.

Regards,

Red candles
