Although Grey’s Anatomy shows how resident surgeons and nurses at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital interact, the show primarily focuses on Meredith Gray. When the show started, Meredith was an intern at Grace Seattle Hospital.

As the series progressed, fans got to see Meredith grow as an individual and as a doctor to be one of the top surgeons in the hospital. Meredith is the daughter of the highly recognized Ellis Gray, who has been portrayed as not having been the mother of the year.

Despite the challenges Meredith had grown up on, she ended up pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. The night before her internship began, Meredith had a one-night stand with her future husband, Derek Shepherd, whom she met at a bar.

The next day, Meredith realized that Derek was a hired surgeon at the same hospital she was interning. Meredith also has a complicated relationship with Grace Seattle Hospital Chief of Surgery Richard Webber. It is noteworthy that Richard shared a close bond with Meredith’s mother, Ellis.

Meredith and Derek end up getting married and starting a family. However, in season 11, Derek has a car accident and is taken to Dillard’s emergency room, where he dies at the hands of Dr. Penelope Blake.

Who is Penelope Blake and what is her connection with Meredith and Derek

Penelope Blake, aka Penny, was introduced to viewers in Season 11 as a resident of Dillard Medical Center. When Derek has a car accident, he is taken to Dillard ER and placed in Penny’s custody.

When Derek’s condition began to deteriorate, she requested a scan of his head which Paul Castello refused and instead insisted that Derek be operated on to control his abdominal bleeding. Before arriving in the operating room, Penny again requested a head scan, but Paul refused.

While operating on Derek he became unstable and Paul immediately remembered that he had a tear in his head. Paul asked the anesthesiologist to check Derek’s eyes, revealing a puffed up pupil. They decided to call Dr. Cohn, the head of the neurosurgeon who at the time was at a dinner party.

He ended up arriving at the hospital an hour and a half later. Penny called him, but Cohn told her they should have called him earlier. When Penny and Cohn went to talk to Meredith about Derek’s passing, Meredith told them that they should have gotten the MOT as it might have saved his life.
