The Division 2 marauder drones are bugged and break the game

Large and deadly armed marauder drones are normally a threat in The division 2. But at the moment they are even more dangerous than usual: if you shoot one, you will receive an annoying error and be kicked from the game. The bug makes it almost impossible to complete certain missions and events.

In Division 2, Marauder drones are huge flying machines that contain multiple weapons. These flying tanks can easily kill unprepared players, although they have weak spots to target. Except not right away, because filming these things will break everything.

It’s hard to say when exactly this bug started happening in Ubisoft’s online shooter, but most error reports appear to have started on July 10. Since then, things have not improved. Players on all platforms seems to encounter this bug. Everything you need to activate the annoying error message is to shoot the drone. A few seconds after doing this you will be kicked out of the game. Some report that if you shoot at the very obvious large weak spots of the drone, you will receive a kick sooner than if you just shoot at other areas of it. But in the end, it doesn’t matter. Shoot that big boy and you’ll be logged out and expelled from the match.

If you come across one of those big drones in the open world, it’s annoying but avoidable, as public drone events are optional. The real problem occurs when these drones appear on missions, like the one taking place at the Pentagon. In these cases you’re kind of screwed up as these drones are often treated like boss fights and need to be destroyed in order to progress in the mission. This has become an even bigger issue for players when those drone-filled missions are tied to a daily challenge or event.

Some players have claimed that you can brute force through these missions if you are playing solo, because the game tracks your progress and allows you to keep pushing after each error message. But it’s hard and not the perfect way to play Division 2. Most people avoid these drones and all missions involving them like the plague while waiting for a fix.

Massive and Ubisoft have yet to publicly address the marauding drone issue or when to expect a fix. Kotaku contacted Ubisoft.
