The Echo wall clock from Alexa is again on sale after connectivity issues

A little less than a month after suspend sales to fix some Bluetooth connectivity issues, D & # 39; Amazon Echo Wall Clock is now back for sale in the United States at its initial price of $ 30. Amazon does not say much about the source of the problems, but says that a new software update should improve its performance and connectivity.

"Customers with an Echo wall clock connected to a compatible Echo device have received this update automatically," added a spokeswoman for Amazon.

Without a microphone or speaker, the Echo wall clock is not a traditional Echo device in itself. Instead, it is an accessory that uses Bluetooth to connect to an existing Echo speaker (the Echo, Echo point, Echo Plus, Echo show, Echo Spot or Echo input, to be exact). Tell this speaker to set a timer and it will display as a visual countdown on the LEDs surrounding the outer edge of the dial.

The only problem? These timers are not displayed as expected for early clock users.

We were confronted with the problem ourselves when the CNET Smart Home review team tested the Echo wall clock in early January. He kept the exact time after being associated with an Echo speaker, but he did not display our Alexa timers and only worked as advertised after exchanging the batteries. Some users have indicated that they have to exchange batteries regularly whenever the clock loses its connection.

"It's nice to have an original utility experience," said Rich Brown of CNET in his examination of the apparatus, "but maybe lock the party's batteries to work" before you ship. "

With the fix, Amazon seems to have taken into account. Existing users who have already purchased a solution should look for a firmware update that should automatically display at the next clock connection to your Echo speaker.
