BUENA VISTA, Va. – The police confirmed Three people were killed in the Friday blast and the fire at a Virginia gas station.

The remains of the dead were transported to the coroner's office in Roanoke for examination, autopsy, and positive identification, Virginia State Police said.

Two bodies were found Friday at South River Market in Rockbridge County, a few kilometers north of Buena Vista. Police said the death toll rose to three on Saturday. Earlier, authorities said four people were injured.

Confirmation of the identity of the victims could take several days.

At approximately 9:30 am on Friday morning, the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office and the Rockbridge County Fire and Rescue Service reported an explosion at the market and gas station. South River at the intersection of Old Buena Vista Road and South River Road. .

Four adults were taken to Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington for treatment, the police said.

The Salem Field Office of the Virginia Police Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the cause and origin of the blast. Police said the incident did not seem suspicious in nature.

However, the incident remains an active scene.
