A massive explosion at a silicon plant in northern Illinois sent at least four people to the hospital late Friday night.
9:30 pm An explosion at AB Specialty Silicones, located in an industrial park in Waukegan, also left an unknown number of employees, said CNN.
Local police said an "active search and rescue" operation was underway, according to the Chicago WGN television channel. The cause of the explosion was the subject of an investigation.
Strong detonations were heard and the ground trembled in the towns of the region, about 50 miles north of Chicago, along Lake Michigan.
