The failure of death is reinvented as Mario 64

Death Stranding does not lack the odd humor of Hideo Kojima, but overall, it seems to deal with pretty serious topics. A video of GameXplain alleviates this serious problem by mixing it with the bright and colorful world of Super Mario 64.

Specifically, it mixes the music and sound effects of Mario 64, but that's enough to radically change the tone of the game. Instead of the quiet serenity of nature, we get the Whomp's song Fortress. Sam "wah" and "wahoos" climb the hill to make a delivery. There is even a magic mushroom. All sorts.

An extensive game demo debuted at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The event helped to better understand how Death Stranding controls and plays, including a surprise cameo from the event's host, Geoff Keighley. Kojima hinted at more cameos in the game, and we might guess some of them based on visitors to Kojima Productions.

Death Stranding will be available April 16, 2020. The $ 200 collector's edition includes a ton of extras, such as a life-size BB Pod statue and a Ludens keychain. See our pre-order guide for more details.
