The Fairphone 3 gets a perfect repairability score on iFixit (surprise!)

The dismantling of the Fairphone 3 via iFixit.I fix it

The Fairphone 2 is the only smartphone to score 10 out of 10 on the iFixit gadget repair site, thanks to its modular design. We now have another phone with a perfect score on the website and you can not be surprised to learn that it is the Fairphone 3.

The new phone follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by offering easy-to-exchange modules and a user-replaceable battery. So what is the repair website thinking of the new device?

iFixit praised the smartphone, saying key components such as the battery and display are accessible without tools or with a standard Phillips screwdriver.

Once you have accessed these parts, the website indicates that they can be replaced very easily (some parts may require a Torx screwdriver). In addition, the Fairphone 3 contains "visual cues" that will help you to disassemble and replace the various components. Could you imagine Huawei, Samsung or Apple do all this?

iFixit also noted that you can get replacement guides and replacement parts from the manufacturer's website. This is not surprising given Fairphone's commitment to being easy to repair, but it's good to hear it nonetheless.

The only real disadvantage of the Fairphone 3 is that some components of the phone modules are soldered, which complicates things if you want to replace these bits.

The Fairphone 3 with the map of the DRC.I fix it

Curiously, iFixit also found a rather cool Easter egg (see above), showing a map of the Democratic Republic of Congo inside the phone. It's a nod to the country that is at the root of some of the conflict-free minerals in the phone.

The new Fairphone is not the most powerful device on the market, with a Snapdragon 632 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable. You also have a 12MP rear camera, an 8MP selfie camera, a 3000 mAh battery and a 5.7 inch Full HD LCD screen.

You are considering a retail price of 450 euros for the Fairphone 3, which is certainly more expensive than some affordable flagship products. But again, how many other phones make an effort to be ethically produced, let alone modular?
