Atlanta Falcons and defensive tackle star Grady Jarrett agreed on Monday to extend their four-year contract, the team said.

The terms were not revealed, but sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN that the contract was worth $ 68 million.

The Falcons had until 4 pm ET must accept the contract with Jarrett, who initially received the $ 15.209 million franchise label. Jarrett had signed the beacon, precursor of the long-term agreement, in April.

"As we have said since the end of the season, entering into an agreement with Grady is a priority and we are pleased to have accomplished it today," said the Falcons general manager, Thomas Dimitroff, in a statement. "Grady is an integral part of our organization and we look forward to working together for many years."

Now, with Jarrett's signature, the Falcons can focus on signing new deals for wide receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Deion Jones. Team owner Arthur Blank has already said the two players would be "Falcons for life" and Julio Jones was not worried about the status of his contract.

Drew Rosenhaus, a Falcons and Deion Jones agent, is due to take part in face-to-face talks in Atlanta on Wednesday, a source told Schefter.

The Falcons hope at least that Julio Jones' agreement is complete by the start of the training camp, and he may be about to extend his $ 20 million contract a year. The escrow is currently two years old and has more than $ 21 million left.

Jarrett, a fifth round pick in the 2015 NFL draft by Clemson, has become the best defender of the Falcons in recent years. According to Pro Football Focus, Jarrett generated 53 total pressures during the 2018 campaign while dominating the inside. Jarrett had six sacks, three forced fumbles and 16 hits in the quarter-finals last season. He also prospered as a racer and recorded eight tackles for losses, a team-high.

"It's hard to summarize with a small chance," said Falcons coach Dan Quinn, asking what Jarrett represented for his team. "brings to his defense – the hardness, the intangible and the speed of Grady, all this is about."

Free Security Ricardo Allen emphasized how important Jarrett was to the defense because he set the tone in advance.

"Grady is back so fast that he's the first m —– f —– the quarterback is leaking," Allen said. "Grady's productive guy, he's one of the best defensive strikers in the league, brother."

Jarrett is part of the same 2015 draft class as Vic Beasley, Clemson's first-round pick, who led the league with 15.5 sacks of the 2016 season. But Beasley's production has dropped considerably since then, making this season an important season for his future alongside Jarrett on the defensive line of Falcons.

Jarrett has been nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his community services, including his efforts to combat bullying and social justice.

The Falcons are holding their first day of training camp next Monday. All veterans must appear before Sunday.
