FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Good news, fans of Atlanta Falcons: NFL games will return in your life faster than for 30 other fans.
The NFL announced Tuesday that the Falcons would be opposed to the Denver Broncos in this year's Hall of Fame game on August 1, at the start of the 2019 preseason. This will be only the fourth time in the history of the franchise that the Falcons participate in the Hall of Fame game. Playing in the Hall of Fame Game means that the Falcons will have five preparatory games in 2019 instead of the traditional four.
"We are ready to begin the 100th season of the NFL in the Hall of Fame Game," said coach Dan Quinn. "We are honored to be playing in Canton and participating in the celebration of all inductees. It is also an opportunity for us to strengthen our bonds and fraternity with extra time on the ground. "
Atlanta's last appearance was a win over the San Diego Chargers in 1994. The two previous defeats of the game – both losses – were in 1981 against the Cleveland Browns and in 1969 against the Green Bay Packers.
The Falcons clashed with the Broncos for the last time in 2016, when Atlanta set out on the road to defeat Denver, 23-16.
