An 8-year-old girl was killed and three others injured in a shootout at a football show involving several high schools in St. Louis, Missouri.
The police first responded to a football jamboree fight at Soldan High School around 7:20 pm. Friday night, announced the St. Louis Metropolitan Police. About 30 minutes later, shots were fired nearby.
Four injured shots were found in the parking lot of a restaurant near the school.
They were taken to a local hospital, where one of the victims, Jurnee Thompson, aged 8, was pronounced dead.
Jurnee was with her family when she was shot, said police chief John Hayden at a press conference.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reports that Jurnee is the 12th child to die from a shootout in the city since April.
Of the other gunshot victims Friday night, two 16-year-old boys and a 64-year-old woman were in stable condition, police said.
No suspects have yet been identified, police said Saturday morning.
The jamboree was held on the same site in previous years without any problem, said the police spokesman. "But this one was tragic," said the chief of police.
The president of the State Athletics Athletics Association expressed his grief over "senseless" violence.
