The famous chef Bobby Flay does not adhere to the craze for meatless burgers

Herbal meat substitutes are becoming more and more popular – but celebrity chef Bobby Flay is still not jumping on board.

"For now, it's not something I have in my restaurants," he told CNBC's Power Lunch Tuesday.

His comments came after Little Caesars announced Monday that he would be selling a pizza with pieces of herbal sausages made by Impossible Foods.

Flay, whose holdings currently include six restaurant brands in the United States, said it was all about cost. On his very laid-back Bobby's Burger Palace chain, the check averages around $ 11.

"Compared to what we serve from the beef standpoint, an ordinary burger as it were, compared to something like the Impossible Burger … The Impossible Burger would cost about three times more expensive, "he said. "So, of course, we would have to pass this on to our customers."

This does not mean that the Bobby Burger Palace does not offer a vegetarian option. It serves veggie burgers, but there is a difference between these and new options, Flay said.

Vegetarian hamburgers are made from chickpeas, beans and cereals, he said. Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, which has made a quantum leap since its May 2 public launch, are both trying to mimic what meat looks like.

"At this point, since they're somehow the newest or the first on the market, the cost is for the moment a bit prohibitive for my restaurants both fast and casual," said Flay.
