Kelvin Joseph remains at LSU. A few hours after the entry of the LSU cornerback's name on the NCAA transfer portal, his father told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune that Joseph remains on the spot.
"It remains," said Kelvin Joseph Sr. Monday (May 20). "He's not going anywhere."
Joseph listed his name on the portal Thursday after a meeting with LSU's administrators following a trip to Florida during which he went on stage with rapper NBA YoungBoy, a Baton Rouge native, confirmed his Father.
Joseph made the decision without talking to his father or to Ed Orgeron, who is on vacation in California. His name officially appeared on the portal only Monday, but the situation had been settled.
Joseph was a regular contributor in his first year of college, fighting for the half-corner spot of the fall camp before Kristian Fulton put the position under control after being declared eligible by the NCAA. Joseph was suspended for the Fiesta Bowl against center Florida for violating the team's rules.
Joseph, one of Scotland's top 50 hopefuls in 2018, is expected to play in Fulton's corner-back semi-final match this fall with rookie star Derek Stingley Jr. Fulton recovering from injury in 2018, Joseph and Stingley started with first defense of the team at the spring match in April.
Joseph spent time at the corner and safety half while he was at LSU. The Tigers are expected to have a deep defensive backfield in 2019, including the 2019 half-wedge selection with Stingley, Maurice Hampton, Raydarious Jones, Cordale Flott and Jay Ward.
This is the first season of use of the transfer portal, as the NCAA has removed the procedure for transfers to obtain permission from their current school before receiving another grant.
Entering the portal does not mean that a player must leave the school. He may withdraw his name and return to the team, which Joseph intends to do.
