The FBI on Tuesday identified the hiker killed with a machete on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia over the weekend.
The victim, Ronald S. Sanchez Jr. of Oklahoma, died as a result of his wounds suffered Saturday during the attack, according to FBI Special Agent in Richmond, David Archey, and American lawyer Thomas Cullen of Charlottesville.
James Jordan, 36, of Cape Cod, Mass., Was arrested and charged with killing Sanchez and nearly killing a hiker with a machete, officials said. The hiker lost her life after being stabbed several times, the FBI announced. She reached two other hikers after traveling 10 km while she was injured and bleeding.

"This incident is still under investigation and additional information, including the identity and status of surviving hikers victims, will not be disclosed yet," said Archey and Cullen. "Thank you for respecting the privacy of these hikers who heal the physical and emotional injuries suffered during last weekend's incident."
A federal judge ordered Jordan to undergo a psychiatric examination.

At the time of the attack, Jordan was on probation in a case in Tennessee in which he was accused of threatening hikers on the Appalachian Trail with a knife and a machete.
The Unicoi County MP, who arrested him on April 22, said that during an interview, Jordan had blurred the words and appeared to be "under influence", according to court documents obtained by Fox News. .
