The filmmakers of Endgame were not "surprised" Spider-Man left the cinematic universe of Marvel

Anthony and Joe Russo – known professionally as the Russo brothers – who realized Avengers: End of the game, the biggest film of the year to beat all ticketing records – recently said they were not shocked when Spider-Man left Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after negotiations failed between Sony and Marvel Studios.

Apparently, the Russo brothers were not completely caught off guard, like the fans, when Marvel Studios announced that Spider-Man had to leave the MCU. In a recent interview with the Daily Beast, the duo of directors said he knew the partnership between Sony and Marvel Studios was not built to last but they were still excited.

"We were extremely passionate, "said Anthony Russo about the partnership and adding Spider-Man to the MCU. "It's something we really wanted to do and we fought a long time internally at Marvel to make that happen," he added.

"Many ups and downs" in the partnership with Sony

Joe Russo explained some of the difficulties faced by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, during the partnership.
