The first snowstorm of 2021 spreads to the Midwest, bringing widespread snow and high winds.
Blizzard warnings are where blowing snow and winds gusting over 35 mph could cause whiteout conditions throughout the day. The journey will be dangerous, if not impossible.
Strong wind warnings extend southward over a wide swath of the central and southern plains.
These winds and dry conditions increased the risk of fire, especially in parts of Colorado and Texas.
The storm will move east tomorrow and ease with rain and snow for the Ohio and the Tennessee Valley.

A second storm will form along the mid-Atlantic and move into the northeast on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and snow to the north, especially at the high altitudes.
Next week there will be the first big wave of arctic air of the season, which will not only bring freezing temperatures, but more chances of major storms and wintry weather.
