The Mario Kart Tour finally arrives on iOS and Android tomorrow, September 25th. Along with its launch, Nintendo will launch the first "Tour" of the game – a bi-monthly event that will run in different locations and give players a chance to unlock special characters.
Unlike previous games in the series, Mario Kart Tour offers a handful of courses inspired by real-world locations. The first tour will take place in New York. The event will run from September 25 to October 9. In each round you can win Grand Stars based on the number of points you accumulate in a race. These in turn unlock new Tour cups and gifts, including new drivers, go-karts, gliders and other items.
Mario Kart Tour contains a variety of characters to unlock, but some will only be available during Tour events. During the New York Tour, you will be able to unlock two unique drivers: the Mario and Pauline musician of Super Mario Odyssey. Each driver of the title can use a special element: the musician Mario can throw two Bob-ombs at the same time, while Pauline can use the Lucky 7.
In addition to the real world places, Mario Kart Tour offers a variety of courses from the history of the series; We had a glimpse of Rainbow Road and Choco Island with the SNES game, as well as Dino Dino Jungle from Double Dash. The game also features 30 riders that you can unlock via a mechanic gacha.
Mario Kart Tour is free to download and includes microtransactions. To play the game, you must have a Nintendo account. You can create one for free on the Nintendo website. For more details on Mario Kart Tour and its first event, watch the video above.
