The last Pixel Buds update we saw came out in September to fix a weird bug that involved audio cuts out after a specific amount of time. It was the last bug fix for an expensive product that can’t seem to be on stable ground. Today another update is here that only ticks version number 1, so I’m guessing we’re dealing with more bugs and not much else.
The new Pixel Buds 2 update is rolling out (via reddit) as version 553 and should be available to everyone immediately. I was able to remove the update after not touching my Pixel Buds for several weeks.
To check for the update and start the process, connect your Pixel Buds to your phone, open the Pixel Buds app, tap “More settings,” then tap “Firmware update.” Make sure the “Automatic Updates” option is turned on, or you can turn it on and then back on. After that, you just listen to your Buds for a while (or at least leave them out of their cases) to let the update download in the background.
After listening for a while (10 to 15 minutes) and assuming an update is ready to install, you drop your Buds into their case, and then the update will install. There is still no status for this process, so you have to trust it, Joel Embiid.
If we find anything new or if Google publishes a changelog, we’ll let you know.
