The flour sold at Aldi recalled after 17 people in 8 states became ill

The discount supermarket chain Aldi recalled the 5-pound sacks of Baker's Corner all-purpose flour as they could be contaminated with E. coli.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, seventeen people are reported to be sick in eight states. Three of these people were hospitalized.

People interviewed by the CDC reported eating, licking or tasting a raw, homemade dough or paste. Two people told the CDC that they had eaten Aldi's raw dough or cooking dough. The CDC states that eating or tasting raw dough can make a person sick.

The disease began on December 11, 2018 and the last one began on April 18, the CDC said.

The recalled flour was sold at Aldi's 11 states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia. -Occidentale.

The CDC, the US Food and Drug Administration and regulatory officials in several states are investigating the outbreak that occurred between December 11 and April 18, the CDC said. No cases of death or hemolytic uremic syndrome (a type of kidney failure) have been reported, the CDC said.

There are many strains of the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli). Most strains are harmless and live in the intestines of humans and animals in good health.

Coli causes certain diseases by producing a Shiga toxin. People usually get sick two to eight days after ingesting the germ, the CDC says.

Symptoms of E. coli infections can include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. Some infections are benign, but others can be life threatening.
